Dendrobium speciosum var. pedunculatum is a remarkable orchid that commands attention with its striking beauty

This small Australian species blooms in spring with sprays of fragrant white flowers with a purple-spotted lip. The plants have short, sturdy canes with broad green leaves.

The Dendrobium speciosum var. pedunculatum orchid showcases flowers that radiate like captivating luminous beacons, making them a photographer's delight. Among the diverse orchid species, some effortlessly capture and reflect light in their portraits, and this variety is undoubtedly one of them.

Indigenous to Australia, Dendrobium speciosum var. pedunculatum primarily thrives in the northern regions of Queensland, located south of the capricornum variety. Resembling the capricornum variety, the pedunculatum variety boasts relatively compact and sturdy pseudobulbs. The specific plant in question, aged 15-20 years and potted in an 8-inch container, boasts 14 pseudobulbs measuring 6-8 inches (15-20 cm) in height. Notably, the flower spikes of this variety reach the "full-size" dimensions typical of Dendrobium speciosum, extending approximately 24 inches (60 cm) in length.

We cultivate this orchid variety outdoors until nighttime temperatures drop below 40°F (4°C). During the winter months, from December to March, it finds its home in a cool room with nightly temperatures around 50°F (10°C). It graces us with its blossoms in the heart of winter, appearing in the mid to late season.
