Introducing the Epidendrum nocturnum:

Originating from lush habitats spanning from Florida to the heart of South America, the Epidendrum nocturnum enchants with its captivating fragrance and striking blooms. This large-sized, reed stem orchid thrives as an epiphyte on trees and rocks or as a ground orchid, adapting to diverse environments from wet lowland forests to elevated landscapes up to 2000 meters.

Key Features:

  • Stunning Blooms: During the summer through fall, the Epidendrum nocturnum graces your space with large, showy flowers measuring 7.5-12.5 cm in diameter. The blooms, which emit an intense fragrance, especially at night, boast inner whorls that transition from whitish to greenish-yellow, complemented by a yellow-thickened white lip and a white rod.
  • Elegant Foliage: Its leafy stem, reaching heights of up to 100 cm, showcases leathery, linear-oblong to oblong-ligulate leaves, adding verdant elegance to any setting.

Cultivation Tips:

Light: Provide filtered or dispersed light, avoiding direct sunlight in the afternoon. Aim for a light level of 20000-30000 lux, ensuring consistent air movement.

Temperature: Maintain average day temperatures of 25-27°C and night temperatures of 16-17°C, with minimal daily fluctuations.

Humidity: Sustain humidity levels between 85-90% throughout the year to mimic its natural habitat.

Substrate and Repotting: Opt for shallow containers with excellent drainage or tree rootstocks, ensuring high humidity. Repot when substrate decomposes or when roots outgrow containers.

Watering: Water frequently during growth periods, ensuring loose substrate and good air access. Avoid desiccation or soggy conditions around roots.

Fertilization: Fertilize weekly during active growth with 1/4-1/2 of the recommended orchid fertilizer dose. Adjust to nitrogen-enriched fertilizers in spring and phosphorus-enriched ones in late summer and autumn.

Rest Period: While adaptable to drier conditions in winter, maintain consistent watering to ensure plant health, especially in colder or darker conditions.

This is a blooming size in a 4" pot about 1 to 2 years to bloom, grown from seed, limited!

Enhance your space with the allure of the Epidendrum nocturnum. With proper care and attention to its natural habitat, you can cultivate this mesmerizing orchid to adorn your home or garden with its breathtaking beauty and captivating fragrance.
