Introducing the Hoya elmeri, a captivating climbing plant that effortlessly blends natural elegance with ease of care. This delightful specimen boasts wiry stems and fleshy dark green leaves, adorned with small wort-like growths and subtle, barely visible veins. The magic unfolds as these lush, light green leaves transform into a striking red hue when bathed in the gentle glow of direct sunlight.
What sets the Hoya elmeri apart is its enchanting flowers, appearing in charming round clusters that showcase a deep burgundy red. The centers of these blooms boast a waxy allure, while the petals are delicately covered in a soft white fuzz, adding an adorable touch to the overall aesthetic. As if that weren't enough, the flowers emit a subtle fruity fragrance, creating an inviting atmosphere wherever this plant graces your space.
Cultivating the Hoya elmeri is a joyous experience, making it an ideal choice for both seasoned and novice plant enthusiasts. Providing bright filtered light to full sunlight ensures optimal growth and encourages the vibrant display of its green to red flowers and lush foliage. The wiry stems, smooth and slightly fleshy, often root, and boast up to 4.8 inches (12 cm) long internodes, creating an intricate and visually appealing climbing structure.
The opposite, fleshy leaves are leathery when dry, somewhat elliptic, and terminate with a short, sharp point. Attached to the stems with a thick, up to 0.4 inches (1 cm) long petiole, these leaves reach up to 6 inches (15 cm) in length and 2.6 inches (6.5 cm) in width. The captivating green to red flowers, measuring up to 0.6 inches (1.6 cm) in diameter, grace the plant in clusters from spring to summer. The corolla is glabrous outside, silky and densely hairy inside, featuring broad, spreading, or recurved lobes, while the corona adds an extra dimension in shades of green, red, purple, or even orange, measuring up to 0.3 inches (0.8 cm) in diameter.
This is a plant division in a 2.5” pot, about 1 to 2 years to bloom, grown from seed, limited!
Easy to grow, visually stunning, and emitting a delicate fragrance, the Hoya elmeri is the perfect addition to any indoor garden or well-lit space. Elevate your plant collection with this charming climber that combines beauty with simplicity.
